Famous for its two biggest landmarks, the Freddie Mercury monument and the Château de Chillon, Montreux is also known for being mentioned in the lyrics of bands such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Queen.
Montreux has one main area, Place du Marché, the town’s main square which features the statue of Freddie Mercury facing Lake Geneva. Montreux also boasts one of the most beautiful walks along the lake, stretching from Villeneuve all the way towards Vevey. Other areas consist of the numerous small villages around Montreux, including La Tour-de-Peilz, Clarens, Territet, and Villeneuve. Also Chateau de Chillon provides a marvelous view of the entire Lake of Geneva and can be easily accessed via bus, walk or boat.
